Named after the Ottoman Empire which controlled much of South East Europe, West Asia and North Africa from the 14th to 20th century, it was for centuries one of the world's most important centers of silk weaving.The ribbon style fabric was developed in the weaving ateliers of the Ottoman court where silk production was highly advanced.
