Samarkand
Samarkand is one of the oldest cities in the world, and Alexander the Great is said to have said “everything that I heard about Samarkand is all true… except for one thing: it turned out to be more beautiful than I could imagine.” The city, which is in modern day Uzbekistan, is known for its mosques and mausoleums and is considered one of the pearls of Central Asia. Samarkand was one of the key cities of trade along the Silk Road which linked China to the Mediterranean. The throw is woven in Italy using a special artisanal yarn.
